Craft beer isn’t easy to define by what it is – it is easier to define by what it isn’t. Generally speaking, beers with mass appeal designed to be accepted by anyone cannot be called craft beer. After all, how can a beer be truly pleasing or have unique character when it was designed to be as non-offensive as possible to everyone?
Craft beer is usually made in small quantities by skilled craftspeople that spare no expense or effort to express the flavor and full potential that can be found in beer. Most often, traditional methods and ingredients are used, but when they are not, the intent is to add a unique character to the beer desired by the brewer – not to lighten the flavor or decrease the price. Craft beer is designed to bring a full-flavored experience in every glass, where the beer itself can be the star.
